The morning begins with a visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama. Here, we pay homage to the colossal Maitreya Buddha statue and the sacred stupas, immersing ourselves in the solemnity of Tibetan Buddhism.Afterward, we drive along the legendary G318 National Highway, transitioning onto the Everest road. The journey takes us over the Gyatsu La Pass (5,200m), offering distant views of a continuous chain of four 8,000-meter snow peaks. We then ascend Gawula Pass (5,200m), where the viewing platform reveals the magnificent panorama of the Everest range and the spectacular "Everest 108 Switchbacks."Transferring to eco-friendly buses, we reach Everest Base Camp (5,200m). Standing before the 8848.86-meter monument, we gaze up at the "Roof of the World" as it transforms into a brilliant golden summit under the setting sun. The night is spent at a guesthouse in Basong Village, where the Milky Way and stars feel close enough to touch.

Depart from Darchen (altitude 4675 m) at 6:00 AM, heading west along the Lachu River Valley in the faint morning light. The initial section is flat, passing numerous colorful prayer flags and Mani stones inscribed with the six-syllable mantra. Tibetan devotees prostrate themselves every three steps, creating a solemn and sacred atmosphere. After hiking about 8 km and taking 4 hours, you will arrive at Qugu Monastery (altitude 4860 m) at 10:00 AM. The monastery is built against the mountain; you can take a short break, eat some hot food, and photograph the majestic pyramid shape of Mount Kailash's north face. The trail becomes steeper in the afternoon, winding up the mountainside through alpine scrub and scree slopes, where you might spot Tibetan wild asses, plateau pikas, and marmots. The air gets thinner, so adjust your pace to avoid altitude sickness from overexertion. Arrive at Dirapuk Monastery (altitude 5080 m) before 5:00 PM. The guesthouse faces the west face of Mount Kailash, offering the best accommodation viewpoint of the holy mountain. At sunset, the golden-red light bathes the pyramid peak, creating a magnificent scene. Stay overnight in simple dormitory beds; bring your own sleeping bag and conserve energy for crossing the 5630-meter Dolma La Pass early the next morning.

Overlooking the jade-like Togye Tso from the pass, it stands as the highest point and the spiritual core of the entire journey. Afterwards, we faced a steep descent with rugged rocks, requiring cautious step-by-step navigation. In the afternoon, we proceeded along the gentle river valley section, passed through the secret realm of Drakphuk Monastery, and finally arrived at Drolma Phuk Monastery (altitude 4,800 meters). Though my legs were sore, my soul felt purified. Staying overnight at the guesthouse beside the monastery, the successful completion of the mountain kora is imminent.
