Tour Plan
Your journey begins as you depart from Chengdu and head northwest toward the mountainous region of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. Your first stop is the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, an ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to 256 BC. This remarkable engineering feat still functions today, diverting water from the Min River to irrigate the fertile Chengdu Plain without the use of dams. After exploring this historic site, you continue your journey deeper into the mountains, arriving at Bipenggou, a stunning scenic valley known for its pristine natural beauty, colorful forests, snow-capped peaks, and cascading waterfalls. Upon arrival at Bipenggou, you will be transferred to your local hotel or guesthouse for check-in, with the remainder of the day free to rest and begin acclimating to the mountain environment.
warm tips:
Accommodation Note: Hotels in the mountains often have limited heating and solar water heaters, which means hot water can be unreliable in cloudy weather or late at night. Facilities are more rustic than in the city—please understand this is part of the experience.
Altitude Awareness: The drive goes from ~500m to 2,000-3,500m. Take it easy, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activity. Do not shower on your first evening to help your body adjust.
Weather & Packing: Temperatures vary greatly. Dress in layers and pack a warm jacket, as mountain weather changes quickly.
Your journey continues as you depart from the stunning autumn colors of Bipenggou, a high-altitude valley known for its colorful forests, pristine lakes, and snow-capped peaks . After exploring this natural wonder, you will traverse the scenic Lixiaolu road, winding through mountains and pastures before arriving at the majestic Siguniangshan (Four Girls Mountain), often called the "Oriental Alps" .
Warm Tips
Bipenggou Exploration: Allow 4-5 hours to explore the valley . Take the shuttle bus to Shanghaizi (海拔 ~3000m), then electric carts or hike to Moon Bay for the best views .
Dress in Layers: Both areas experience significant temperature swings and unpredictable mountain weather—warm layers and waterproof outerwear essential .
Altitude Awareness: Bipenggou (2000-5000m) and Siguniangshan valleys (2900-4200m) are high . Move slowly, stay hydrated, and prepare for potential altitude effects .
Sun Protection: UV rays are intense at high altitudes—sunscreen, sunglasses, and a brimmed hat are necessary .
Comfortable Shoes: Sturdy, non-slip footwear essential for walking on uneven trails and boardwalks .
Scenic Drive Lixiaolu: The connecting road offers spectacular mountain views—have your camera ready .
Valley Choices at Siguniangshan: Shuangqiao Valley is most accessible with shuttle buses; Changping Valley offers hiking/horseback options; Haizi Valley is more remote .
Pack Snacks: Food options limited within scenic areas—carry energy bars, water, and a thermos with hot drink .
Start Early: Beat crowds and capture best morning light at both destinations .
Photography: Bipenggou's colorful forests reflect beautifully in lakes; Siguniangshan's peaks are best captured from Maobiliang viewpoint .
Note: Bipenggou sits on the northern face of Siguniang Mountain, offering unique perspectives of the same mountain range from different angles .
Your journey continues as you depart from Siguniangshan and enter the breathtaking Shuangqiaogou Valley, the most accessible and scenic of the area's three valleys. Here, you'll journey by shuttle bus to its highest point at Hongshanjing, then work your way down past meadows, lakes, and snow-capped peaks . Afterwards, you'll travel to the renowned Jiaju Tibetan Village, a beautiful hillside settlement of traditional homes, before finally arriving in Danba county for the night .
Warm Tips
Shuangqiaogou Strategy: Take the shuttle bus directly to the end (Hongshanjin) and visit attractions in reverse order to avoid crowds and save energy .
Key Stops: Don't miss Buddha Pagoda for classic road shots with雪山, and Siguniangcuo for stunning mountain reflections .
Ticket Price: Shuangqiaogou entrance + shuttle bus is approx 150 RMB .
Jiaju Ticket: Entrance to Jiaju Tibetan Village is 50 RMB .
Jiaju Exploration: Known as one of China's most beautiful villages, take time to wander and admire the unique architecture against the mountain backdrop .
Altitude Note: Shuangqiaogou reaches nearly 3900m—move slowly, stay hydrated .
Drive Time: The journey from Siguniangshan to Danba is scenic but winding; allow approx 2 hours .
Accommodation: Consider staying in a traditional Tibetan guesthouse in Jiaju or Danba for an authentic experience .
Evening in Danba: A quiet county town—perfect for resting after a full day of exploration.
Your journey continues as you depart from Danba and visit the serene Zhonglu Tibetan Village, a hidden gem nestled against the sacred Mordo Mountain with its ancient watchtowers and whitewashed homes . You then travel to the expansive Tagong Grassland, where you can admire the golden top of Tagong Temple against the backdrop of stunning Yala Snow Mountain . Next, you'll explore the surreal, otherworldly landscapes of Moshi Park, a geological wonder often compared to an alien planet . Your day concludes in Xinduqiao, the famed "Photography Heaven" along the 318 National Highway .
Warm Tips
Altitude Awareness: You'll be traveling at altitudes between 3,200m and 3,900m. Avoid strenuous activity, stay hydrated, and be mindful of potential altitude effects .
Comfortable Shoes: Sturdy, non-slip footwear is essential, especially for walking on the sometimes steep and uneven paths at Moshi Park .
Sun & Weather Protection: UV rays are intense at this altitude. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are a must. The weather is also highly changeable, so dress in warm layers and carry a raincoat .
Tagong Temple: Don't miss the chance to see the sacred "Jowo Buddha" statue inside, a replica of the one in Lhasa .
Moshi Park Photography: The "Alien Planet" area is the prime spot for photos. A wide-angle lens or your phone's panorama mode will capture the best shots .
Xinduqiao Arrival: Famous for its 10km scenery长廊, the light here is perfect for photography, especially in the late afternoon .
Your journey culminates in a spectacular finale as you depart from Xinduqiao, the "Photography Heaven," and ascend to the breathtaking Yuzixi Observatory. From this lofty perch at over 4,500 meters, you'll be treated to unparalleled panoramic views of the majestic Gongga Snow Mountain, the king of Sichuan's peaks. After soaking in the awe-inspiring scenery, you'll begin your descent through the mountains, returning to the vibrant capital of Sichuan, Chengdu.
Warm Tips
Altitude Alert: Yuzixi sits at approximately 4,500m. Move slowly, breathe deeply, and avoid sudden movements. If you feel unwell, descend immediately.
Start Extremely Early: Sunrise at Yuzixi is the main event, and the viewing platform can get crowded. Depart Xinduqiao well before dawn to secure a good spot and witness the "golden mountain" phenomenon.
Dress for the Arctic: Temperatures at Yuzixi, especially before dawn, are bitterly cold. Wear every layer you have—thermal underwear, fleece, down jacket, windproof outer shell, hat, gloves, and a scarf. Hand and foot warmers are a lifesaver.
Weather is King: Yuzixi's views are entirely weather-dependent. Check the forecast before you go; a clear morning is essential. If clouds are predicted, consider if the early wake-up is worth it.
Road Conditions: The road from Xinduqiao to Yuzixi and then on to Chengdu involves mountain passes. Be prepared for winding roads and potential for ice or fog, especially in colder months.
Drive Time: The full journey from Xinduqiao to Chengdu, including the Yuzixi detour, is a long day. The drive from Yuzixi back to Chengdu alone takes approximately 5-7 hours. Plan for rest stops.
Snacks & Water: Pack plenty of high-energy snacks and a thermos with a hot drink for the early morning at Yuzixi. Options are non-existent up there.
Photography Gear: A tripod is essential for capturing the sunrise. Protect your camera battery from the cold—it will drain much faster. Keep a spare warm in your pocket.
Final Descent: As you drop in altitude, you'll feel the air grow thick and warm again. Enjoy the transition back to city life, but don't forget the incredible views you witnessed at the rooftop of the world.
Chengdu Arrival: After this long and exhilarating day, treat yourself to a well-deserved Sichuan hotpot to celebrate the successful end of your high-altitude adventure.

This was not our first time going to here. It is a great place to shop not too far from Europe. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
