Tour Plan
Arriving from various places at Sunlight City Lhasa, Lhasa Railway Station/Lhasa Gongga Airport, tour
guides or staff carry signs/offer Hada to pick up the group, drive to hotels in the city to stay and rest to
adapt to altitude sickness.
Arrive at the Potala Palace square before 9:00 a.m.; line up early or enter with your pre-booked QR code.
After passing the main gate, visit the eight sights of the Snow Citadel first.
During the tour of the White Palace (where the Dalai Lamas lived) and the Red Palace (which contains numerous Buddhist chapels and stupas).
When the palace visit is finished, rest briefly on the square; there is a fountain where you can take souvenir photos.
13:00 – Head to the Yaowang-shan viewing platform.
Half-way up the hill this terrace is one of the best spots for photographing the Potala Palace; it is also the location of the scene printed on the 50-yuan bank-note. From here you get a full view of the palace, the distant snow-capped ridges and the city of Lhasa.
14:00 – Visit the Jokhang Temple.
The Jokhang is the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism, housing the 12-year-old statue of Śākyamuni that Princess Wencheng brought to Tibet. Admire the murals and images while soaking up the atmosphere of the faith.
16:00 – Walk Barkhor Street.
Barkhor is Lhasa’s busiest commercial lane and a living showcase of Tibetan culture.
Dinner – authentic Tibetan yak-meat hot-pot.
9:00 a.m. Depart Lhasa city, heading south-west on National Highway 318.
10:00 a.m. Arrive Yamdrok-tso, one of Tibet’s three holy lakes; the water is turquoise and the shoreline deeply indented, creating spectacular scenery. Drive the lakeside road, stop at View-point No. 1 (the highest, 4,998 m) for a panoramic view of the whole lake, then continue along the shore for close-ups and a distant view of Mt. Nojin Kangsang.
11:30 a.m. Leave Yamdrok-tso for Karola Glacier; arrive ~12:00. Lunch on the way in a roadside restaurant serving Tibetan dishes. Karola is one of Tibet’s three continental glaciers; its ice tongue reaches almost to the highway, a dramatic sight.
1:30 p.m. Depart Karola for Mila Reservoir; arrive ~2:30 p.m. The first large hydro-project in Tibet, the reservoir has broad, beautiful waters. Walk across the dam for views.
3:00 p.m. Leave Mila for Palcho Monastery; arrive ~4:30 p.m. Famous for its “100,000-Buddha Pagoda” whose walls hold more than 100,000 Buddha images, the monastery’s buildings blend Tibetan, Han and Nepali styles. Enter to view statues and murals, then continue to Shigatse for check-in and dinner, arriving ~6:30 p.m.
9:00 Depart Shigatse, follow National Highway 318 toward Everest Base Camp.
10:00 Arrive Gyatso-La Pass (5,198 m) – a superb viewpoint for Everest and the surrounding giants. Photograph Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Cho Oyu, all 8,000-metre peaks, in one sweeping panorama.
12:00 Leave the pass, stop for lunch at a roadside restaurant, then continue.
14:00 Reach Rongbuk Monastery (5,154 m), the highest monastery on earth, only 20 km from the summit of Everest. Tour the halls to see Buddha statues and scriptures, feel the unique spiritual atmosphere, and learn about its history. The mani-stone wall outside makes a perfect foreground for Everest photos.
16:00 Depart Rongbuk for Everest Base Camp.16:30 Arrive at Base Camp – pose beside the Everest monument for a close-up view of the world’s highest peak. Visit the world’s highest post office to mail postcards before the night cold sets in.
Stay overnight at Everest Base Camp. Rise early the next morning to watch the sunrise over the world’s highest peak—an unforgettable sight when the summit turns gold against the dawn sky.
08:00 Leave Base Camp and head for the next destination—Lake Peiku-tso, the largest lake in Shigatse Prefecture. Nestled among snow-capped peaks, its sapphire-blue water offers picture-perfect scenery; stop to photograph the lake and its mountain backdrop.
11:00 Continue to Tingri County for a local lunch, then drive toward Saga County. Along the way you’ll enjoy views of the Xixabangma glacier group and, if you’re lucky, spot flocks of sun-birds or troops of long-tailed langurs.
18:00 Arrive in Saga, check in and enjoy dinner.
09:00 Leave Saga and start the day’s journey.11:00 Arrive in Zhongba for a short break and enjoy the high-plateau scenery. Zhongba, a mandatory stop on the way to the Sacred Mountains and Lakes, offers vast grasslands, crystal rivers and a paradise for wild animals.
11:30 Depart Zhongba for Lake Manasarovar.13:30 Reach Manasarovar—one of Tibet’s three holy lakes. After lunch and a brief rest, begin the visit. The lake water is so clear that its transparency reaches 14 m; the sapphire-blue surface is framed by snow-capped mountains and alpine meadows, creating a majestic panorama. Walk the shoreline, feel the serenity and sanctity, and see prayer flags and mani stones left by pilgrims that add a strong religious atmosphere.
17:00 Leave Manasarovar for the village of Darchen.17:30 Arrive in Darchen, check in and have dinner. Darchen, a small town at the foot of Mt. Kailash, is the gathering place for pilgrims and trekkers. Local specialities and souvenir shops offer an authentic Tibetan experience.
19:30 Walk about 1 km from Darchen to Mt. Kailash. The mountain inspires awe—both a holy site for pilgrims and a magnet for adventurers. Here you witness nature’s craftsmanship and test your own limits: towering peaks, glaciers and rocks weave a magnificent canvas. Whether you plan to trek the kora or simply gaze from below, Kailash delivers unparalleled grandeur. We visit the mountain, feel its power and wait for the golden sunset on the peak. After the tour, return to the hotel for a good rest and prepare for tomorrow’s trek!
Depart from Takchen and pass through the prayer flag square to officially begin the kora (pilgrimage circuit). Follow the mountain path and enter the Laqu Valley, enjoying the natural scenery along the way.After about 1 hour, arrive at Chugu Monastery to visit the Amitabha Buddha and the meditation cave ofGuru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Continue on to the Three Protectors of Esoteric Buddhism, and finally reach Zheri Monastery
Depart from Zhire Temple and begin the climb to Dolma-la Pass—the most challenging section of the kora. The altitude rises from 4,850 m to 5,650 m over rough, steep terrain that demands good stamina.At the top you are rewarded with sweeping snow-mountain vistas. Use trekking poles on the descent and take each step carefully.
After crossing Dolma-la you descend to Zutulpuk Monastery.
Starting from Zucu Temple and heading back to Taqin along the mountain road, the journey is relatively relaxing and offers beautiful views of the plateau scenery, including alpine meadows and cliff gullies.Upon arriving in Taqin, the circumambulation pilgrimage is successfully completed.
Departing from Taqin and heading to Zada, you will pass through the vast northern Tibetan Plateau,enjoying the views of plateau lakes and grassland scenery.

09:00 Leave Zanda county-town for the Gu-ge Kingdom ruins. Zanda is the transport hub of Ngari and the gateway to the ruins.09:30 Arrive and explore the site. Built on a hill beside the Sutlej River, the citadel climbs from the valley floor to the summit and contains more than 300 rooms, 300 caves, 3 stupas over 10 m tall, 4 temples, 2 assembly halls and 2 underground tunnels. Admire the 10th-century architecture and murals while feeling the glory of the lost kingdom.
10:30 Drive 20 km to Tholing Monastery.11:00 Tour Tholing, founded in 996 by King Yeshe-Ö and the translator Rinchen Zangpo and modelled on Samye. See the Katsara, White, Stupa, Arhat, Maitreya, Dharma-Protector, Assembly, Sérkhang and Atisha halls—an Indo-Nepalese-Tibetan architectural blend.12:00 Lunch in the monastery; short rest.
13:00 Head for the Zanda Earth-Forest National Geo-Park. These “soil forests” are the county’s signature landscape and were used as a location for the movie Candle in the Tomb. Walk among the towering, wind-carved pillars and feel nature’s sculptural genius. Continue to Xia-yi-gou, whose yellow, red, white and blue mineral-rich strata glow even brighter under sunlight, creating a layered palette of colour.
15:00 Depart for Shiquanhe (Gar) Town.18:00 Arrive, check in and enjoy dinner.
Depart Shiquanhe (Gar) and follow the G317 highway east to Xiongba Township. On arrival take a short break to admire the high-plateau scenery and soak up the local Tibetan atmosphere.Lunch – choose a small-town restaurant near Xiongba for authentic Tibetan fare: tsampa, butter-tea, etc. After a brief rest continue east on the G317 toward Beru Tso. When you reach the lake step out for photos; the water changes colour under the sun, a classic high-altitude gem.Next continue to Wuma Tso for another quick stop to enjoy the quiet beauty of this alpine lake.When you’re ready hit the road again and follow the G317 to Gerze County. Arrive in the evening, check into your hotel and enjoy dinner.
Leave Gerze County and drive to the "Tree of the Earth." This awe-inspiring natural sculpture on the Ngari plateau was carved by centuries of river erosion and tidal wash; its trunk, branches and crown form a perfect "living tree," making it a paradise for photographers. Follow the designated viewing trail, admire the spectacle, and take as many photos as you like.
Next, head to Dongtso for lunch. Dongtso is a crystal-clear alpine lake set in picture-postcard surroundings – a real pearl of northern Tibet. Enjoy a meal at a nearby local restaurant, sampling northern-Tibetan specialities such as highland-barley wine, tsampa and air-dried yak meat. After lunch stroll along the lakeshore, soak up the silence and, if time allows, spread a blanket on the grass for a relaxed picnic.
From Dongtso continue to Wenbu South Village, featured in the documentary "The Third Pole." Clustered on the shores of Lake Dangreyong, this pretty settlement is steeped in Tibetan atmosphere. Wander its narrow lanes, photograph traditional houses and daily life, and capture the perfect shot for your album.
When ready, drive on to Nyima County for dinner and your overnight stop.
09:00 Leave Nyima County and follow the G317 north toward Siling-tso. Along the way you’ll cross the wild Chang-thang: limitless grassland dotted with salt lakes and herds of Tibetan antelope and wild kiang.10:30 Arrive at Siling-tso, Tibet’s second-largest lake (2,391 km², 4,530 m). Stroll the boardwalk and watch the water change from pale turquoise to deep sapphire as the light shifts—perfect for photos.
12:30 Simple lakeside lunch – local dishes and a short rest.
13:00 Continue west on the G317 to Baingoin County. More high-plateau scenery—prairie, glittering lakes and distant snow peaks.15:00 Check in at Baingoin, settle into your hotel and enjoy dinner.
09:00 Depart Baingoin County and follow the G317 south toward Lake Namtso. Along the way you’ll cross the northern Chang-thang: endless grassland studded with lakes and herds of Tibetan antelope and wild kiang.10:00 Arrive at Namtso—Tibet’s second-largest lake (1,920 km², 4,718 m) and one of the “Three Holy Lakes.” Walk the lakeside boardwalk, photograph the turquoise water and surrounding snow peaks, then have an early lunch at a nearby restaurant.
12:30 Leave Namtso and drive toward Nyenchen Tanglha Range. The massif’s north face forms the lake’s backdrop; its summits are perennially snow-capped and spectacular.14:30 Reach the viewing area—colourful prayer flags flutter against the glaciers. Take panoramic photos before starting the return journey.
16:00 Head back to Lhasa along the G318, enjoying the sunset over the northern grasslands.18:00 Check into your Lhasa hotel and enjoy a well-earned dinner.
After breakfast, the hotel will arrange the departure time according to the return transportation to end the Xizang tour.
