Tour Plan
Arrive in Lhasa, the City of Sunshine, from various destinations. Our tour guide or staff will greet the group at Lhasa Railway Station or Lhasa Gonggar Airport, holding a welcome sign and presenting khata scarves. Then, we will transfer you to the downtown hotel for check-in and acclimatization to altitude sickness.
Arrive at the Potala Palace Square before 9:00 a.m. and queue up in advance or enter with a reservation ticket. After entering through the main gate, you can first visit the 8 scenic spots in Shol. Then proceed to tour the White Palace and Red Palace: the White Palace served as the living quarters for lamas, while the Red Palace consists of numerous Buddha halls and stupas. After the Potala Palace tour, take a short break at the square, where you can take photos as a souvenir with the fountains in view.
At 1:00 p.m., head to the Yaowang Mountain Observation Deck. Perched halfway up Yaowang Mountain, this deck is one of the best spots to photograph the Potala Palace—it is also the location featured on the reverse side of the 50-yuan RMB note. Here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Potala Palace, as well as the distant mountain ranges and the urban landscape of Lhasa.
At 2:00 p.m., make your way to Jokhang Temple, a sacred pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhism believers. The temple houses the 12-year-old statue of Sakyamuni that Princess Wencheng brought to Tibet when she married into the area. Admire the murals and Buddha statues inside and immerse yourself in the cultural atmosphere of Tibetan Buddhism.
At 4:00 p.m., go to Barkhor Street, the most prosperous commercial street in Lhasa and a concentrated showcase of Tibetan culture.
For dinner, savor an authentic Tibetan yak meat hot pot.
Depart from downtown Lhasa at 9:00 a.m. and drive southwest along the 318 National Highway. We are scheduled to arrive at Yamdrok Lake at 10:00 a.m. As one of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, it boasts crystal clear azure waters and winding shorelines, presenting a truly spectacular sight. Drive along the lakeside road to enjoy the stunning views of Yamdrok Lake, then head to Viewpoint No.1—the highest viewpoint of the lake, sitting at an altitude of 4,998 meters—to overlook the entire magnificent panorama of the lake. Continue driving along the lakeside, where we will make stops to admire Yamdrok Lake up close and gaze at distant snow-capped mountains including Mount Nyainqêntanglha.
