- As many activities & excursions as can be fitted in to your trip.
- Go any day of the week and most times of the year.
Tour Plan
Arrive in Lhasa, the "City of Sunshine," via Lhasa Railway Station or Lhasa Gonggar Airport. Your tour guide or staff will greet the group with a sign and offer a khata (Tibetan greeting scarf), then drive you to the urban hotel for check-in and rest to acclimatize to altitude sickness.
Warm Tips
This day is crucial for first-time visitors to Tibet. Lhasa has an altitude of approximately 3,650 meters, with oxygen content only 65% of that in mainland China. Most guests may experience varying degrees of altitude sickness. Besides maintaining a calm mindset, avoiding strenuous exercise, drinking plenty of water, eating more fruits, and getting adequate rest are the best ways to prevent altitude sickness. If you feel unwell, please contact your guide promptly for medical treatment at a hospital.
Do not wash your hair or take a bath on the night of arriving in Lhasa, and be careful to prevent colds. Lhasa has a large temperature difference between morning and evening; please keep warm to avoid triggering altitude sickness.
Most hotels in Tibet use solar water heaters, so the hot water may sometimes not be very warm. We appreciate your understanding.
Accommodation conditions in Tibet are limited and may differ from hotels of the same class in mainland China. Please be mentally prepared.
Arrive at Potala Palace Square before 9:00 a.m.; queue up in advance or enter with a reservation ticket. After entering through the main gate, you can first visit the eight scenic spots in Shol. Then proceed to tour the White Palace and Red Palace: the White Palace was where the Dalai Lamas resided, while the Red Palace consists of numerous Buddha halls and stupas.
At around 2:00 p.m., head to Jokhang Temple. As a sacred pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhist believers, the temple houses the 12-year-old Buddha statue of Sakyamuni, which Princess Wencheng brought to Tibet when she married into the region. Admire the murals and Buddha statues inside, and immerse yourself in the cultural atmosphere of Tibetan Buddhism.
At around 4:00 p.m., make your way to Barkhor Street—the busiest commercial street in Lhasa and a concentrated showcase of Tibetan culture.
For dinner, enjoy an authentic Tibetan hot pot with yak meat.
Depart from Lhasa at 9:00 a.m. and take the Airport Expressway to Yamdrok Lake. You are expected to arrive at Yamdrok Lake by 11:00 a.m.—enjoy the picturesque lake and mountain scenery by the lakeside and take photos to commemorate the moment. As one of the "Three Sacred Lakes" of Tibet, Yamdrok Lake boasts crystal-clear blue water that complements the distant snow-capped mountains, creating a spectacular view.
For lunch, head to Nagarze County near Yamdrok Lake and savor local specialties such as Tibetan cuisine and zanba (roasted barley flour).
Depart for Karola Glacier at 3:30 p.m. As one of Tibet’s three major continental glaciers, Karola Glacier is the eastern source of the Nianchu River. Visitors can overlook the glacier from the observation deck and marvel at the extraordinary craftsmanship of nature.
Around 4:30 p.m., proceed to Gyangze. Upon arrival, visit Gyangze Fortress (also known as Gyangze Dzong Fortress) to learn about its historical background and cultural value. Located in downtown Gyangze, this fortress once served as the seat of the region’s former administrative authority and was the site of fierce battles against British invaders. After the tour, meals and accommodation will be arranged.
Depart from Gyangze at 9:00 a.m. and drive along the highway to Gyala Pass (Gawula Pass). You are expected to arrive at the pass by 11:00 a.m. Head to the observation deck to admire the four 8,000-meter-class snow-capped peaks—from left to right, they are Makalu, Lhotse, Mount Qomolangma, and Cho Oyu—and take photos as a souvenir.
Around 12:30 p.m., proceed to Rongbuk Monastery. Upon arrival, visit this monastery, which holds the title of the world’s highest-elevation temple, and learn about its historical and cultural significance.
Depart from Rongbuk Monastery for Mount Qomolangma Base Camp at 3:00 p.m. Once you arrive at the base camp, meals and accommodation will be arranged. After dropping off your luggage, you can enjoy free time to embrace the magnificent beauty of nature. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the Himalayan banner clouds over Mount Qomolangma—wispy formations that drift like flames of life.
At 7:00 a.m., admire the stunning and breathtaking Mount Qomolangma (the "Golden Peak at Sunrise") at the Mount Qomolangma Base Camp.
At 9:00 a.m., depart for Sakya Monastery. You are expected to arrive at the monastery around 1:30 p.m. Tour the monastery to learn about its historical and cultural significance. Have lunch in Sakya County and taste the local specialities.
At 3:00 p.m., leave Sakya Monastery for Shigatse. Upon arrival in Shigatse, meals and accommodation will be arranged.
Depart from Shigatse at 9:00 a.m. and head for Tashilhunpo Monastery. You are expected to arrive at the monastery around 10:00 a.m. Tour this renowned Gelugpa monastery of Tibetan Buddhism and learn about its historical and cultural significance. Then proceed to Jaggangri Snow Mountain. Along the way, enjoy the stunning plateau scenery; upon arrival at Jaggangri Snow Mountain, gaze into the distance at the breathtaking snow-capped mountain views and take photos as mementos. Have lunch near Jaggangri Snow Mountain and taste the local specialties.
Depart from Jaggangri Snow Mountain for Siling Co at 1:00 p.m. Upon reaching Siling Co, admire the magnificent scenery of Tibet’s largest lake and embrace the crystal blue and tranquil lake water.
Leave Siling Co at around 5:00 p.m. for Baingoin. You are expected to arrive in Baingoin at 6:00 p.m., where meals and accommodation will be arranged.

Admire the magnificent snow-capped mountain views from the viewing platform and take photos as souvenirs. Afterwards, proceed to Namtso Lake. Enjoy the plateau scenery along the way; upon arrival at Namtso Lake, take the scenic shuttle bus to enter the scenic area and appreciate the spectacular views of Namtso Lake. Have lunch at a restaurant near Namtso Lake and taste local specialties.
Depart from Namtso Lake for Lhasa at 2:30 PM. Pass through Nagula Pass on the way, where you can get off to take panoramic photos of Namtso Lake. After arriving in Lhasa, meals and accommodation will be arranged.
Depart from the hotel and head to the home of Tibetan compatriots for a friendly exchange and conversation. Try making tsampa—a specialty of the Tibetan region—by yourself. After having lunch at the Tibetan family's home and taking a short break, proceed to Tibet Runjin Theatre to watch a series of performances including Tibetan song and dance shows and Sichuan Opera face-changing acts.
After breakfast at the hotel, the airport transfer will be arranged according to your return transportation schedule, bringing your Tibet trip to an end.
