Warm Tips
Start Early: Yuelu Mountain is best enjoyed in the morning to avoid crowds and heat.
Comfortable Shoes: Significant walking across all sites—proper footwear essential.
Orange Island Shuttle: Consider taking the internal shuttle to save energy for exploring.
Yuelu Academy: A living piece of history—take time to appreciate the ancient architecture.
Provincial Museum: Home to the famous Mawangdui artifacts. Book tickets in advance if required.
Student Discount: Bring student IDs if applicable—many sites offer reduced entry.
Lunch Options: Local restaurants near Yuelu Mountain serve authentic Hunan cuisine.
Weather Check: Changsha summers are hot; carry water, sunscreen, and a hat.
Photo Ops: Orange Island offers the best view of Mao's giant youthful statue.
End of Tour: If departing today, allow enough time for airport/train station transfer.
Morning: Assemble at Changsha Railway Station at around 7:30, then take a bus to Huaminglou Town in Ningxiang City, the former residence of Liu Shaoqi (the ride takes about 90 minutes; electric cart fare is 20 CNY per person, at own expense). Visit Liu Shaoqi's Former Residence/Liu Shaoqi Bronze Statue Square/Liu Shaoqi Memorial Hall (for approximately 90 minutes). Liu Shaoqi's Former Residence faces west with its back to the east, a courtyard farm house built of earth structure; Comrade Liu Shaoqi was born here on November 24, 1898. Later, take a bus to Shaoshan, the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong, the founding leader of the People's Republic of China and a revolutionary memorial sacred place (the ride takes about 30 minutes).
Afternoon: After lunch, visit Mao Zedong Square. Wear Chairman Mao badges collectively and hold a solemn memorial ceremony in front of the bronze statue of Chairman Mao to express profound memory and respect for the great man. You may also present flower baskets to the bronze statue of Chairman Mao as a group to pay tribute to the founder of the great People's Republic of China (voluntary expression, expenses at own expense).Visit Mao Zedong's Former Residence (free visit for about 40 minutes; guides are not allowed to enter for explanations. Friendly reminder: There is an endless stream of tourists visiting the former residence, please queue up patiently and in order). The former residence is located at Shangwuchang, Tudichong, Shaoshan Village, Shaoshan Township, Shaoshan City. It faces north with its back to the south, a concave-shaped civil structure building—the east side belongs to Mao Zedong's family, the west side to neighbors, and the central hall is shared by both families. Comrade Mao Zedong was born here on December 26, 1893, and lived here for 17 years. In the autumn of 1910, Mao Zedong left his hometown to pursue studies with the ambition of saving the nation and the people. Visit Mao Zedong Memorial Hall (if the Life Exhibition Area is closed, the Special Exhibition Area will be visited instead). After the visit, take a bus back to Changsha at around 16:00 and check in to your pre-booked hotel on your own.
Your journey continues as you depart from Changsha and travel to the Zhangjiajie region. Upon arrival, you will explore Huanglongdong Scenic Area, a spectacular karst cave known for its underground rivers, waterfalls, and stunning cavern formations.
